Nausicaa and Ulysses

for Linnea and Anders Thornblad, sailing the world on their boat Nausica

Where clear lines part the waters
Maidens fair wash arms and golden heads
A lost man comes before us
Dark impressions on the sand he treads
Water pools around small feet
They take flight along with his regrets

Where sails are leaning into the light
One tall figure stands her ground
This vision, naked masculine might
Clothed by her, sent queenward bound
‘Appease my mother, that you might stay
Live through us with your account’

Where he stands before the court
Speaking verse of gods and unpaid debts
City burning, men spilt forth
And of sirens singing darkest webs
Her eyes shining into his
Silent, to her memory he weds
